The first Annual General Meeting of Shareholders was held on January 20, 1892. Of notable interest was the appointment in 1892 of Mr. L. O. Inniss, a local pharmacist and historian, as Auditor of the Association. He became a Director in 1912, and was the author of the Association's famous motto “Let Your Rent Pay For Your Home”. Mr. Inniss was a Director of the Association until his death in 1940.
"Quittez Loyer Ou Payer Cai Qu" - Let your rent pay for your home, has been the functional basis for TBLA's operations over the years.
